Bungaku Shoujo Fantasy Art Book is on the short side, with 64 pages, but it’s only ¥1050. The book dives right into the art work from both official artists and fan artists.

The book starts out with art works by Miho Takeoka. Some were also in the series art book, Bungaku Shoujo Galerie D’Art. Many of the illustrations in “Character Pick-up” are spreads and focus on characters other than Toko Amano.

The “fan artists” enter in the second half. In the first subsection, artists illustrate the stories featured within Bungaku Shoujo. The first piece is by Miggy with an illustration from “Undine.” Sousei no Aquarion illustrator Kaneda Eiji is next.

Also included are Phantom of the Opera by Hato Rami and The Red Candle and the Mermaid by Kaya Kuramoto. Yashagaike has an illustration by Atsuko Nakajima. Works by .hack//CELL artist Mutsuki Akira, and Sunaho Tobe also appeared in this section. Also, all of the illustrations in this “story in story” section are spreads.

My favorite part is the last section, the fan art of the actual Bungaku Shoujo characters themselves. I love seeing different artists’ renditions of character designs, and the artist selection for the section is impressive. This section has art by Miyama ZeroTakuya Fujima, BLADE, Konax6suke, Keiji Yamamoto, Mikaki Mikako and Fruitpunch.

The book ends with four pages of Pixiv x Famitsu Bunko tribute art works. There is an “About Bungaku Shoujo” summary and artists comments on the illustrations. Miho Takeoka and Mizuki Nomura have a message at the end. Websites of several artists are also listed with the comments in the book, just to be helpful.

Though it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, Bungaku Shoujo Fantasy Art Book is great value for money. This creative collection of illustrations from very talented artists is worth it.
