FUFUFU 2010 – Vinhnyu3 min read
Reading Time: 3 minutesFUFUFU 2010 is a fan art collection by Vinhnyu that released at the July 2010 Japan EXPO held in Paris. It features art work from Final Fantasy, Vocaloid, and K-ON! among others. Vinhnyu made his debut this year as a published illustrator in Japan, winning the mascot design competition for Kotobukiya’s OTACOOL books, which showcase aspects of anime fandom around the world.
FUFUFU 2010 is B5-size, full color, staple-bound and 28 pages. The cover art features the Hatsune Miku Append version, with a Miwa Shirow Eager Love REVENGE style to it. The illustration is repeated inside, but finished in full color. I like the cynical expression on her face, as it’s not a usual look for Hatsune Miku.
The art works span from 2008 to 2010, although the majority are from this year. Vinhnyu’s cel-shaded style really highlights decorations on the clothing patterns and details.
K-ON! girls above wearing really cute street clothes! Even though the collection is fan art, many of the characters costumes are original, which is unique.
Sold separately during the EXPO were posters and postcards of Vinhnyu’s character Elyse, from his manga Elyse ~Modern Witchcraft~. It’s going to be translated into English for the new French-Japanese doujinshi event in Paris called Comic LIVE, which will showcase artists from both countries.
You can still buy an A4 version of this doujinshi direct from the artist. From my personal experiences at conventions, I thought that “Artist’s Alley” consisted of sketches on demand, prints, or single illustrations for sale and auction. It’s good to know that self-publishing is shifting and will make it easier to buy collections from artists anywhere in the world!
