Ito Satoshi’s art work strongly reflects Western fantasy art, reminiscent of Dungeons & Dragons. As a result, Ito’s style re-envisions popular anime characters we know in a more realistic way.

ChaoticG collects fan art and original illustrations in this 32 page, B5-size doujinshi. There isn’t an index or copyright information on the illustrations, so I may be mistaking fan arts for original works. Most of the works in the first half look like standard fantasy-style illustrations. The anime influence appears in the character’s costume.

The binding of this doujinshi is poor. Several of the pages stuck to each other inwardly, instead of attaching to the spine. But it could also be a mistake on a few copies.

The highlight for me in ChaoticG are the fan art works. Some pictures use Akira Toriyama designs: Master Roshi from Dragon Ball and Bianca and The Hero from Dragon Quest V. It suddenly becomes a lot easier to picture Master Roshi as a badass in real life!

Other fan arts in the book include Shadow of the ColossusSakura WarsSaint Seiya, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

My two favorites from the book are Kamina and Simon from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The majority of his commercial work is for trading card games. He has also done the character designs for Fu-un Shinsengumi on the PSP and Ninkyouden Toseinin Ichidaiki. I’m guessing this art style has a small audience in Japan, it’s awesome.
