Megami MAGAZINE Creators Volume 22 is the first issue of 2011, and like a few other magazines out, it includes a 12-month calendar. It’s a pretty standard issue, but more artists I enjoy were included this time.

The calendar is arranged with one illustration for every two months, which is pretty standard. The illustrations chosen are from magazine cover illustrations, though there is one that doesn’t fit the pattern. The outside of the calendar features a new work by Eiji Komatsu that’s also on the cover for this issue.

Volume 22 starts out with the Animate Touhou Project animation, and includes an illustration and several film stills that look gorgeous. The Aoi Nishimata illustrated game, Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai, will be an anime and several character designs are included. Also featured are character designs for Steins;Gate anime and Dream C Club Pure Songs Clips.

The theme for the Girls Style section is Kemonomimi Girls and includes illustrations by Emika Umehara, Inugahora An, Torishimo, Shigunyan, Nyan Tanaka, and Ayumi Motoi. All very adorable illustrations!

The Girl’s Avenue opening illustration is by Qni, followed by the first featured artist, H2SO4. For this issue, H2SO4 has a Creators Original with two kemonomimi girls with cameras. Arikawa Satoru also has a new illustration with a school girl in the snow. Inugohara An is the third artist with a new work before it moves into artists who’ve already had a Megami Magazine Girl’s Avenue poster. I was surprised to see a new illustration from Inugohara An in both the Girls Style section and a Creators Original, I don’t think I’ve seen that before with any artist.

The rest of the artists in the Girl’s Avenue section were Naruse Mamoru, Tobe Sunaho, and Nino. Tobe Sunaho had an illustration in the Bungaku Shoujo Fantasy Art Book this past year, though I haven’t seen much else from the artist. I’ve been impressed by the work I’ve seen by Nino, though it’s hard to tell if I like it on its merit or that I really love that OKAMA style.

The featured character designer interview this issue is with Tanihara Natsuki and included are illustrations from D.C. Da Capo and Tantei Opera Milky Holmes. Hirata Katsuzo is the featured animator, the anime character designer for Angel Beats!Hand Maid MayCosplay Complex and others. A couple pages are devoted to Rio – Rainbow Gate and Shigenori Soejima’s new game Catherine.

The regular features are all in place, with upcoming Queen’s Blade characters, a profile on up and coming artist PANDA, Tetsuno Kyojin mecha girls and an illustration and comic by Shaa—although it’s back to being monochrome this issue. Megami Creators Volume 22 is another solid issue, and for once, we get a bonus that isn’t a poster!
