ALPHONSE – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland2 min read
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Lewis Carroll classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland often serves as a muse for illustrators. ALPHONSE takes it to the next level with his Comiket 76 release of the same title, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is B5-size and 28 pages. The line art for the cover appears on the first page. The scattered dialogue from the story flows over the illustrations, usually setting the scene.
In Alice, ALPHONSE uses minimal outlines allowing for surreal highlights and shadows to engulf the characters. It gives them a more fantastic appearance. TheWhite Rabbit is depicted as an animal, but the Cheshire Cat takes on a punk-ish appearance of a nekomimi-girl.
ALPHONSE includes the Mad Hatter as well as the Queen of Hearts, whom when unmasked, is depicted as Alice. Every story illustration in Alice is painstakingly done with perfect settings and details. It has the appearance of a project that was a long time coming.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland finishes with an illustration of Tweedledum and Tweedledee as beautiful girls in gothic lolita dresses. Perhaps as a segue for a follow up book for Through the Looking-Glass?
