Reading Time: 3 minutesNao Shirahane (DMYO) teamed up with Nishimata Aoi from JOKER RING to create Puella Magi Madoka Magica CONNECT. The doujinshi is part of a set that includes a bag and clear file. It features an illustration by the two artists with Kaname Madoka and Akemi Homura.
The illustrations on the bag are in the doujinshi as spreads. The clear file illustration is only intact on the file itself. The illustration is used as a title page for each artist’s side.
Each artist has half of the book in this B5-sized, staple-bound, 24-page doujinshi. The two sides meet in the center with each artist’s message. Either side can serve as the “front” so both covers have an illustration of Mami Tomoe. Shirahane Nao was particularly creative on her side, with an anthropomorphized version of Kyuubee and a human version of the witch Charlotte. Two illustrations feature Sayaka Miki paired with Sakura Kyouko. Only one illustration (aside from the clear file) features Madoka on Shirahane’s side, though three feature Tomoe Mami. I guess everyone plays favorites.
Nishimata Aoi’s side has three illustrations that included Kaname Madoka. Aside from the bag illustration, none of her pictures included the girls together. I’m glad both artists drew the main girls, it’s always interesting to see different styles on the same characters. Puella Magi Madoka Magica CONNECT has been my favorite Madoka illustration doujinshi so far, though I’m still hoping to see even more amazing collections from Comiket 80.
