Reading Time: 3 minutesTactics Ogre Arts Works is a very well-made art book, but the contents start to feel repetitive with page after page of characters on white backgrounds.
The book has a hard cover with a frosted plastic slip. The title text is etched in gold lettering. The cover art is also featured as an illustration inside. Tactics Ogre Arts Works is 232-pages, A4 size and all color. The book also includes a few interviews.
The first few pages include the “Main Visual Images” by Akihiko Yoshida. This section is 23-pages long and includes the illustrations from the tarot cards that were given away with pre-orders of the game. The “Character Illustrations” section by Tsubasa Masao goes from pages 26 through 65. All the named characters are included in this section and receive a full page portrait.
“Class Images” is the next gallery from pages 68 through 107. It includes the designs of the designated classes like archers, lichs, rogues, and ninjas.
Pages 110 to 183 are the “Character Design Works” which includes illustrations by both Akihiko Yoshida and Tsubasa Masao. The games sprites are also included. There are artist comments on the designs for each character as well, though mostly from Masao.
The rest of Tactics Ogre Arts Works includes “World Setting & Scenery Works” (14 pages) and “Let Us Cling Together Archives & Creators Interviews” (30 pages). The “Let Us Cling Together Archives” features 22 pages of older Tactics Ogre art works. Tsubasa Masao and Akihiko Yoshida are both interviewed on the final pages, and each has a fan message illustration.
