After browsing through Kantoku‘s new STEP Kantoku Art Works, my first reaction was “I should really stop buying his doujinshi!” This doesn’t mean it was a bad book, but there is a lot of repeat content.

There are two versions of STEP Kantoku Art Works: a limited and a standard edition. I purchased the limited edition because it cost only a little bit more. It came with a B5-sized, 24 page monochrome sketch book called Étude #2. I also have Étude #1  because it came with Etsu Magazine Vol. 31 as a promotional item. Both booklets are staple-bound.

The art book is B5-sized and 144 pages. There is no gallery index or interview, so it’s all illustrations from cover to cover. Aside from the cover, there’s only one other book exclusive illustration. A lot of the content was originally drawn for Etsu Magazine and merchandise.

There are a few Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica illustrations. Also included are Kantoku’s art works from Hentai Ouji To Warawanai Neko (変態王子と笑わない猫).

We get to see more of Kantoku’s older art works in the middle of the book. Some of the art work goes as far back as Comiket 73, also known as 2007.

The end of the book moves back into current works, including art done for COMIC1☆ events. Kantoku’s art work is in demand and everywhere nowadays, but it hasn’t lost its charm at all. If anything, it’s even more vivid and beautiful than it used to be.
